Cayuga Facility Overview
Cayuga Correctional Facility is operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. The official DOCCS facility page places it at 2202 State Route 38A, P.O. Box 1150, Moravia, NY 13118-1150. The research names Superintendent Louis Bower and describes the facility as a medium-security facility for males. It is a state prison, not the sheriff-operated Cayuga County Jail.
The people held here are sentenced adult males in DOCCS custody. A person arrested in Cayuga County may first be booked into Cayuga County Jail, may appear in local court records, and may later transfer to DOCCS if sentenced to state prison. After that transfer, the county jail prisoner-bookings page is no longer the right primary search path. DOCCS custody, facility placement, parole lookup, and prison visiting rules are state systems.
Cayuga County has two DOCCS prisons: Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn and Cayuga Correctional Facility in Moravia. Because of that local state-prison footprint, a search for the Cayuga County inmate population should not treat every person as a jail inmate. The county jail roster is for local jail custody; DOCCS lookup is for sentenced state-prison custody.
Published Population Limits
Current official facility-level population figures for Cayuga Correctional Facility were not located in the DOCCS facility page reviewed for the Cayuga County research. The research explicitly notes that non-official sources and older census datasets should not be used as controlling current facility counts. For that reason, no current population count or bed capacity is stated for Cayuga Correctional Facility.
The official facts supported by the research are type and custody category: Cayuga Correctional Facility is a medium-security state prison for sentenced adult males in DOCCS custody. If a later update requires a current number, the safer source path is DOCCS research and reports or an official Open NY dataset rather than an older third-party count.
Search Through DOCCS
Use the official DOCCS incarcerated lookup for Cayuga Correctional Facility inmates. DOCCS lookup guidance says to search by last name alone or with birth year, or to search by DIN or NYSID alone. If the result does not show Cayuga Correctional Facility as the current facility, do not rely on Cayuga Correctional visiting or mail details until the placement is confirmed.
- Open the DOCCS incarcerated lookup for New York state-prison custody.
- Enter a last name, with birth year if needed to narrow common names.
- Use DIN or NYSID by itself when that identifier is available.
- Check the current facility field for Cayuga Correctional Facility.
- Use the separate parolee lookup when the person is under community supervision rather than incarcerated.
If the person has not yet transferred from Cayuga County Jail, the county prisoner-bookings page or jail phone may still be the right path. If the person is in federal prison, use the BOP locator. If the person is in immigration detention, use ICE ODLS. VINELink New York is useful for notification, but it is not the same as a DOCCS prison profile.
Moravia Address and Phone
The facility has a physical and administrative address on State Route 38A and a separate incarcerated individual mail address. Use the DOCCS mail address for correspondence to a person housed at the prison. Do not use the Cayuga County Jail address unless the person is still in jail custody and has not moved to DOCCS.

Weekend Visiting Schedule
Cayuga Correctional Facility visitation information is effective January 1, 2026. Visiting days are weekends, with hours from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and latest arrival at 2:30 PM. Weekend visitation is scheduled by the last digit of the incarcerated individual's DIN: odd-numbered calendar dates for odd-ending DINs and even-numbered calendar dates for even-ending DINs. If consecutive odd-numbered calendar days fall on a weekend, the second day becomes an even visit day.
| Visit Rule | Schedule | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Weekend visits | 8:30 AM-3:30 PM | Latest arrival 2:30 PM |
| Odd-ending DIN | Odd-numbered calendar dates | Used for weekend visit assignment |
| Even-ending DIN | Even-numbered calendar dates | Used for weekend visit assignment |
| SHU custody | Normal visiting hours | One non-legal visit in a Sunday-through-Saturday week |
Holidays that fall on a weekend are open to all incarcerated individuals. Multiple same-day visits are possible if space is available, but once a visitor leaves, that visitor cannot visit the same person again that day. Maximum visitors per visit are three visitors and one child under five sitting on an adult's lap.
DOCCS statewide visiting rules apply at Cayuga Correctional Facility. Visitors need valid photo ID, must follow facility schedules, and may need special permission if they are under community supervision or probation, work for the department, volunteer, contract with the department, or have pending or past criminal proceedings. Visitors sign a rules statement. The superintendent may deny, limit, suspend, or revoke privileges for safety, security, or order reasons.
DOCCS uses body-image scanning for full-contact visits. A visitor who declines scanning may be processed for non-contact visiting if otherwise cleared, but those non-contact visits are limited to two visitors and two hours. Medical exemptions must be requested through Central Office Health Services in advance. Minors need the required adult escort and proof or permission documents. Check clothing, jewelry, electronics, vehicle-storage, and contraband rules before leaving for Moravia.
Mail, Phone, and Money
The research confirmed Cayuga Correctional Facility's incarcerated individual mail address but did not locate a current, facility-specific public fee table for deposits or commissary. Use the main line and current DOCCS rules for money, package, account, phone, or tablet questions. Because state prisons and county jails have different rules, do not apply Cayuga County Jail's GTL phone, lobby ATM, or money-order instructions to Cayuga Correctional Facility unless DOCCS separately confirms that process.

Reception After Sentencing
Cayuga Correctional Facility is not a local booking desk for new Cayuga County arrests. New arrests normally move through law enforcement, the county jail, arraignment, and local court records first. Cayuga Correctional Facility houses sentenced adult males after DOCCS placement. A person may be listed as state-ready at Cayuga County Jail before transfer, then appear through DOCCS once state custody placement is complete.
Use the right records lane for the question. County jail and FOIL records cover local booking and arrest reports. Court systems cover charges, calendars, and case history. DOCCS covers the prison profile, DIN or NYSID lookup, current facility, parole lookup, and facility-specific visitation and mail rules.
PREA and Oversight
The DOCCS facility page lists the same broad program categories described for Cayuga County's state prisons: alcohol and substance-abuse treatment, anger management, educational and vocational programs, family development, guidance and counseling, library and law library, recreation, religious services, sex-offender treatment, temporary release, trauma, transitional services, veterans services, and volunteer services or programs. These are DOCCS programs rather than county jail programs.
Cayuga Correctional Facility's DOCCS page lists PREA audit reports, including Cycle 4 January 18, 2024, a final audit from July 2021, and an October 24, 2017 audit. DOCCS statewide visiting and PREA materials are separate from county jail records. A person housed in Moravia is in state custody, even though the prison sits within Cayuga County.
The practical difference from Cayuga County Jail is the search system. The county jail roster covers local custody and has specific exclusions for youths under 19 and federal prisoners. Cayuga Correctional Facility is searched through DOCCS. Court records, DA records, and local arrest reports can still explain how a person reached sentencing, but they do not replace the state-prison custody profile.
Note: Confirm DOCCS placement and the odd/even DIN visiting schedule before travel, because weekend eligibility depends on current facility records.
